In 1958, Boney Jones and Al Cohen started buying and selling used tires out of a trailer. This trailer was located on Woodbourne Road and they were working out of a chicken coop.
In 1959, a property on Route 413 in Bristol, PA became available so the two partners decided to take a chance and start Tire City Inc.
Over the next three years, the partners opened 18 tire stores throughout the Delaware Valley and parts of New Jersey.
During those years it became very hard to manage all the stores, so they decided to sell all the stores and keep just one. They choose Tire City on Route 413 in Bristol, PA.
Al Cohen decided to leave the partnership and sole ownership was settled to Boney Jones.
Hard work and a handshake to the Rubber Companies kept Tire City going. He worked long and hard hours always trying to help out his customers.
Boney and his wife, Ruby Jones, have 8 children. From 1962 until 1972, Boney had various managers that helped him and Tire City become successful.
In 1973, Boney's oldest son, Alan, started in the family business after graduating from high school, and then over the next 10-15 years other family members joined the business: Terry, Shirley, Debbie, Richard, Sharon and Sandy.
Tire City has also been blessed with an employee who has always thought of Boney as his Dad; his name is Ray (Spud) Busket and he came to work at Tire City after he graduated in 1974 and he is still currently employed with us.
Many times, customers would not have any money and needed tires.
Boney would put tires on their vehicles and tell them to come back and pay when they could; it was more important to him that they took care of their children and family first.
They did come back to pay him and also to thank him for helping them out and to this day they are still our loyal customers. Now their children are customers of ours. That is the way he ran his business.
Over all the years Boney and the Jones family have become friends to thousands of customers, and as a family we say "Thank You" for everything you have done to make us the company we are today.
